Bioon a far, far away time, in a long, long place ago, it was a warm October afternoon, Gustav met the two Richards while mingling in the company of Alvar, John Russell, and the two Ludwigs. They didn't realize Balanchine was peeking behind the heavy drapery until he tripped on Coco as she doggedly tried to finish the hem on the silk curtains; they came down bringing the robust rod to the ground with a thud. The startled Giacomo, flanked by Violetta and Lucia, came in from the adjacent salon exclaiming "che hai fatto?!".
The Pacific breezes ceased, and the hot desert air prevailed, bringing along the aroma of hot tar that wafted fron the refinery. The remaining curtains stopped dancing in and out of the colonade. Calm resumed only to be disrupted by Placido announcing, half jokingly:"La cena e pronta! lavati le mani e vieni a tavola!"
My mom tried shshing him, I was still sleeping, she asked Euterpe, Erato and Thalia to help her get us to the table. After the sumptuous dinner the dessert was brought in, a heavenly chocolate concoction. Maria, Joan and Renata asked almost in unison "no candles?", "of course not" said my dad, matter-of-factly, "it's his birth day!"
